Our Story

Seeing ability first

See the Ability was created around one simple belief: every person deserves to feel seen, understood and included.

We celebrate different abilities, individual strengths and the unique ways people experience the world. Through meaningful clothing and positive messages, we hope to raise awareness, encourage acceptance and help create a more understanding world for individuals and their families.

Why we started

Our story began with our daughter, who has autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and experiences sensory difficulties.

As a family, we understand that the world can sometimes feel overwhelming. We have also experienced a lack of understanding outside our home—from people who may not recognise sensory needs, understand certain behaviours or appreciate the challenges that individuals and their families can face each day.

Yet these challenges are only one small part of who our daughter is.

She is an exceptional swimmer and completely fearless around horses and other animals. Her confidence, natural ability and special connection with animals are remarkable. However, these strengths can often go unnoticed by people outside our family, who may see her difficulties before recognising everything she can do.

This is why we believe so strongly in seeing the ability before the disability. Every person has strengths, talents and qualities worth recognising. Sometimes, others simply need to look beyond their first impressions to discover them.

Our experiences inspired us to create See the Ability.

Our clothing is designed to start conversations, raise awareness and encourage greater acceptance of autistic, neurodivergent and disabled people. Each item carries a message that helps others look beyond assumptions, respond with compassion and recognise the individual before the diagnosis.

For families like ours, greater understanding can make a meaningful difference. Sometimes, a little more patience and acceptance is all it takes to help someone feel safe, respected and included.

More than clothing

Our clothing is about more than what we wear—it is a way to make an important message visible.

Each design offers individuals, families, friends and supporters an opportunity to express pride, show solidarity and help raise awareness wherever they go. We hope our products encourage positive conversations and remind people that not every disability or difficulty can be seen.

Most importantly, we want individuals and families to know that they are not alone.

Our mission

Our mission is to inspire people to see ability before disability and celebrate the strengths, talents and unique perspectives of autistic, neurodivergent and disabled individuals.

Through our products, partnerships and community initiatives, we aim to:

  • Raise awareness and encourage acceptance

  • Promote greater understanding of sensory and individual needs

  • Challenge assumptions surrounding disability and neurodiversity

  • Celebrate every person’s individual strengths

  • Support individuals and families in feeling seen and represented

  • Help build communities where everyone belongs

The meaning behind our logo

Our logo brings together symbols of strength, difference, hope and connection. Each element represents part of the diverse community we celebrate, while the central swing reflects joy, freedom and the importance of giving every person the opportunity to thrive.

Together, these symbols express the heart of our message:

Embrace the difference. Inspire the change.
